Hybrid Film having non-toxic aqueous glue and pinholes
When it comes to branding a product, it’s not always easy to achieve the perfect result. This was certainly the case when we were given the opportunity to brand a seemingly normal bottle. Due to its high contour, we knew that PVC would not work, but much to our surprise, even the 78% shrink-ability of PETg films was not enough.
We had no choice but to opt for the Rolls Royce of shrink sleeves – known simply as Hybrid Film (multilayer PET and OPS hybrid). This film caught on to the bottle so firmly that there were zero wrinkles when shrunk in an electrical tunnel.
However, the next challenge we faced was that after shrinking the sleeve was rotating freely on the container. This happened because when the bottle passes through the heat tunnel, the HDPE bottle expands and the plastic film on it shrinks on the expanded bottle. Once cooled, the bottle contracts slightly and the sleeve turns freely on the bottle.
In the past, we have given a glue coating with double hot-melt bands to overcome such a challenge. But when traditional glue was used here, it gave a yellowish tinge because of the sleeve being totally white. So, we developed a water-based glue which did not change color during shrinking.
Only with these little efforts the seemingly simple product on the shelves of your convenience stores appears eye catchy. It’s this kind of attention to detail and determination to overcome challenges that sets us apart in the world of branding and packaging.
